Bonnie Raitt back on road after break
Bonnie Raitt could brag about beating Mumford & Sons at the Grammy Awards, but she probably won’t.
Raitt’s “Slipstream” was given the nod for the Best Americana Album over Mumford’s “Babel” as well as albums by younger roots-rockers The Avett Brothers and Lumineers.
The award was too far down the list to be handed out on television but was acknowledged by John Mayer when he and Raitt were onstage as presenters during the prime-time festivities.
But the 63-year-old singer and guitarist told the Review-Journal in 2009, “I’ve had the same job now for 40 years, so my fans come see me whether I’ve got Grammys or not, or a new album out.”
“Slipstream” was her first album in seven years, and she resumed touring to promote it last year after a two-year break. Now she’s back on the road with the band that’s backed her for more than half of her four decades in the business.
“The blessing of having got started when I did is if you’re lucky, and you keep stretching and keep giving them something interesting to watch, people will stay loyal and come and see you,” she said in 2009.
