Arron Neville shares bill with fellow New Orleanian Dr. John

Las Vegas had to put up with some swampy New Orleans-like weather recently, so it’s only fair that this weekend blows in some nice Crescent City sounds.

Two of the city’s favorite sons are co-billed at the Cannery on Saturday, although no one will confuse Aaron Neville’s signature falsetto for Dr. John’s equally distinctive blues growl.

Jazz-blues-funk and “swamp rock” pianist Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) is just as cool at age 73 as he was in 1973, when “Right Place Wrong Time” was a Top 40 hit for him. His 2012 album “Locked Down” had the street cred of being produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

Neville is also 73 and also had some producer names to drop when Don Was and Keith Richards helped him realize a longtime ambition with last year’s “My True Story,” an album of doo-wop standards.
