‘Hop’ mixes live action, animation

The movie: “Hop”

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins, Kaley Cuoco, Gary Cole, voices of Russell Brand, Hugh Laurie

Director: Tim Hill

The story: Determined to be a rock drummer, the Easter Bunny’s teenage son heads to Hollywood, where an unemployed slacker hits him with his car — and takes him in.

The buzz: This mix of live action and animation, from the writers of “Despicable Me” and the director of “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” is the first of two Russell Brand movies in two weeks; in addition to voicing “Hop’s” central character, he plays the title role in next week’s “Arthur” remake.
