Eating out is a way to add a little spice to your life

Greg and Jeanne Forrest opened the original Layers at Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway in Henderson in 2004 and moved to 665 S. Green Valley Parkway in 2010. The new location, near the Beltway and Sunset Road, opened in April.

Jeanne Forrest said the newest location, which houses her production kitchen, has a smaller cafe than the Henderson store, which remains open.

“The whole purpose of this location is to supply them with everything they need,” she said. “First and foremost, it’s the production kitchen.”

Forrest said not everything on the menu at the Henderson location is available at the newer one, but that that could change as demand grows.

“I just want to keep everything fresh and good,” she said. Here’s a sample from the menu:

SIGNS OF THE SEASON

Pastry chef extraordinaire Jean-Philippe Maury — he of the elaborately tiered, floor-to-ceiling tri-chocolate fountain at his Bellagio shop — creates a new spectacular for each season. For Halloween, five pastry team members used 250 pounds of chocolate and rolled fondant and spent six weeks creating the life-sized witch sculpture decorating the center of Maury’s Jean Philippe Patisserie at Bellagio, 3600 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Other sweet decorations include a raven on a tree branch, a skeleton in an electric chair and a skull-bedecked tree.

The patisserie is, of course, also offering Halloween treats to take home, including ghost- and witch-shaped chocolate lollipops ($5), a 16.9-ounce chocolate pumpkin box ($57) and lots more in between. Those are available both at the Bellagio location and the one at Aria at CityCenter, 3730 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
