10 best things to do in Las Vegas this weekend

Get a bite

Thursday was National Margarita Day. For something a little different, consider margarita doughnuts from Fractured Prune. Finished with a Key lime glaze and sea salt, they’re served hot and made-to-order for $16.23 a dozen. Fractured Prune is at 9460 W. Flamingo Road.

Grab a drink

The signature Mr. Tang cocktail of the MGM Grand’s new high-end Chinese restaurant China Tang, named after its founder Sir David Tang, is a play on the 19th-century Improved Brandy Cocktail. Dry ice is used to aerate a mix of Chinese botanicals in the serving base. Learn to make it yourself.

Rock out

Nickelback’s upcoming five-show stand at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel puts them in the company of Kiss, Guns N’ Roses, Def Leppard and a few others. Being relentlessly picked on is pretty good for business, it turns out. See them at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Catch a movie

Want to see more of “Black Panther”? Like, say, 180 degrees more? AMC Town Square is one of only three locations in America where you can, thanks to ScreenX. The format uses multiple projectors and screens along the theater’s side walls to create an immersive 270-degree viewing experience. See more about “Black Panther” in 270 degrees.

Oscar Movies

Feel like you’ve missed most of the nine films nominated for best picture at next weekend’s Oscars? Three theater chains are offering passes to see all nine nominees for $35.

The Regal Best Picture Film Festival will show each nominee four times between Friday and March 4 at Aliante, Green Valley Ranch Resort, Red Rock Resort and Sunset Station. Cinemark’s Oscar Movie Week, offering two chances each, runs Monday through March 4 at South Point. See more about the nominees and special screening times.

Downtown

Jammyland, the Arts District’s new reggae lounge and Jamaican kitchen, will host a soft opening on Friday night. The kitchen isn’t cooking yet, and the weather is a bit chilly to have a band on the patio. But bartenders will be pouring drinks, and the team is excited to meet the neighbors. Jammyland is at 1121 S. Main St.

Soulfest

The Fremont Street Experience will again celebrate Black History Month when the 17th annual Taste and Sounds of Soul festival starts Friday. The downtown event, set for 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, will have about 30 street vendors and 25 local bands. Find out more about the Taste and Sounds of Soul festival.

Beer Zombies

Atomic Liquors will host its second annual Beer Zombies Craft Beer festival from 1-5 p.m. Saturday on the Llama Lot on North 10th Street, off Fremont Street. More than 40 breweries will be on hand, sharing award-winning brews and rare, limited-edition selections.

Tickets start at $45 for general admission with unlimited pours.

Global Villager

Lamar Marchese, founder and first general manager of Nevada Public Radio, retired in 2007. His focus shifted from the ear to the eye, thanks to his post-retirement pursuit of photography. He shares some of what, and who, he’s seen in a new exhibit at Sahara West Library, which began a two-month run on Thursday. See more of the photos in “Global Villagers: Street Portraits From Around the World.”

Strawberry

National Strawberry Day is Tuesday. Get an early start on celebration at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. STK offers a dessert called The Cloud made up of fresh strawberries, angel cake, strawberry compote, white chocolate cremeux and strawberry ice cream, covered in cotton candy. It’s drizzled with Grand Marnier tableside and lit on fire.
