The summer heats up Saturday with a preliminary competition for local Hooters Girls who want the chance to compete in the 11th annual Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant at the Hooters Hotel, 115 E. Tropicana Ave.

The competition starts at 4 p.m. in the Night Owl Showroom.

The swimsuit qualifier will showcase 20 of the Hooters Hotel’s employees, who will have the opportunity to compete for the title of “Miss Hooters International 2007.”

The top five candidates in the qualifier will receive cash prizes, but only the top three will advance to the finals on July 18.

The Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant features more than 120 Hooters Girls, chosen from more than 15,000 Hooters Girls worldwide. The pageant showcases the semifinalists in evening gowns and swimsuits, and offers a $150,000 first place prize. The winner of the pageant also serves as the company’s spokeswoman for the year.

Admission is $30.

Quilts showcased by Clark County Museum

Quilts of all kinds will be on display starting Saturday at the Clark County Museum, 1855 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson.

“Still Crazy: 125 Years of Quilts” will showcase the museum’s collection of historic quilts with a display in the exhibit hall and on the beds in some of the historic homes on Heritage Street.

The exhibit, which runs through Nov. 4, examines what may have motivated or influenced the quilts’ creators. It provides information about what was going on in history when each quilt was made. The collection spans 125 years and runs the gamut from small to large, fancy to plain, good condition to poor.

The Clark County Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
