Celine Dion cancels two more performances at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace
Doctors have ordered superstar singer Celine Dion not to attempt to resume her shows at Caesars Palace until next Tuesday. Caesars executives and Celine apologized this afternoon as she canceled two more performances Friday and Saturday nights.
Celine has been battling a viral throat infection and was under doctor’s orders to stay home for bed rest and not to talk. Her fight with the virus began last week when she canceled two weekend and Tuesday’s shows at The Colosseum.
Insiders blame the illness and delayed recovery on her heavy workload she instituted after the death of her husband and manager, Rene Angelil, on Jan. 14.
“She just reached the point of total exhaustion. Celine toured this summer in Europe and Canada and released a French-language album. She returned to Las Vegas without taking a break, and it’s all caught up with her now,” one member of team Celine told me.
“They expected her to be strong enough to fully recover from the viral infection this week, but they want to be safe, so it will now hopefully be next week. You can’t sing if you can’t talk, and you can’t get back to normal health if you’re shuttling between home and work when you should be resting in bed.”
It’s estimated that Caesars and AEG will refund ticketholders more than $2 million Friday and Saturday. We all wish Celine well and a full recovery so that she can return Tuesday.
