Salad dressing can’t hide

Here’s a little trivia on Green Goddess salad dressing: It reportedly was created at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco in the ’20s to honor actor George Arliss, who was appearing in a play titled, appropriately enough, “The Green Goddess.” Since then its popularity has been as up and down as most actors’ careers, but readers say it’s available in Las Vegas for Kaye Adams.

Honest opinion not always welcome

An entertainer was joking with me about what I’d do if newspapers go down the tubes. He suggested I become a consultant.

Bitter Springs Trail a taste of adventure near Las Vegas

The rugged Bitter Springs Trail lies not far from the sprawl of urban Las Vegas, but seems a world away. Designated a scenic back country byway by Congress in 1989, the 30-mile route south of Valley of Fire State Park connects old mining roads, a mountain pass and desert washes between Interstate 15 and the Northshore Road in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Allow at least two hours just to drive the route, more if you stop to explore.

A chance to play in the snow is a short drive from Las Vegas

When winter storms frost the mountains to the west of Las Vegas, hordes of visitors head for the high country in search of snowy adventures. Following Christmas, visitors don bright new mufflers and gloves, load sleds or toboggans in the car and eagerly aim for the alpine wonderland. The only place in Southern Nevada with enough snow, the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, part of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, offers a variety of winter activities.

‘Celebrity Rehab’ an exploitative yet sobering show

It must have been sneaked onto the air by some conscientious VH1 employee while everyone else at the channel was busy scouring the country for fading celebrities and dozens of young women, with little more than daddy issues and a dream, willing to have sex with them.
