Taste of the Town: Thick Amish-style noodles found in two locations

Charles Waddell is looking for a local source for thick Amish-style noodles like he used to get at Glazier’s Food Marketplace, and in response, Pamela Moore emailed that she makes her own.

But wait! Moore has an easier suggestion: She said she has found Reames noodles in the freezer case at Smith’s at 3850 E. Flamingo Road. “These are a whole lot easier,” she added.

And Kathy Miller suggested the Essenhaus brand, which she said she’s found at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 8060 W. Tropical Parkway. …

For Tom Fitzgerald, who’s looking for a supermarket, preferably on the east side, that has a serve-yourself salad bar, readers have only one suggestion: Whole Foods Market, which has four stores in the valley. The selection varies from store to store, and, as LaMonte Woods pointed out, “the quality/quantity depends upon the day of week and the time of day, but it is extensive. … There are seats there, and customers can also ‘take away,’ as the English say.”

Mary K. Gabrik, who misses the salad bars at Giant Eagle in the Cleveland area, also recommended Whole Foods, as well as Glazier’s, which is at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road. …

For David Embree, who’s looking for restaurants, preferably in the northwest part of the valley, that serve broasted chicken, Janice Giannosa emailed, “I would encourage him to trek to Boulder City and visit Chilly Jilly’z,” which is at 1629½ Nevada Highway, in the Red Mountain Plaza. “Make an afternoon of it, and enjoy what our little town has to offer!”…

For Carol Coffey, who’s looking for plum pudding, Susan Montague emailed that she has found it in the past at the International Marketplace, 5000 S. Decatur Blvd., but only during the holiday season. …

More on liver and onions: Bill Jansen recommends the Sahara Saloon at 3345 E. Sahara Ave.

READER REQUESTS

Robert Johnson would like to know if any restaurants in the valley serve the Japanese delicacy fugu, or blowfish. (Research tells me that fugu served in this country must be butchered in Japan.) …

Padmini Pai is looking for goulash cream, a paprika-based paste that comes in tubes, in mild or hot. …

Mike Crawford is looking for Morton Tender Quick Salt, adding, “To duplicate the popular turkey legs recipe at Disneyland, this is an essential ingredient.” …
