Readers to the rescue in quiche search

We’ve got some sources this week for old-fashioned favorites — the kind of foods that remain popular in some circles as the years pass, but become more difficult to find.

For Barbara Tucker, who’s looking for fresh quiche Lorraine in a store or restaurant, Kevin Sporleder recommended Baguette Cafe, 8359 W. Sunset Road (near Durango Drive), adding that it’s not a regular menu item and suggesting calling ahead. Elaine Kam, Darlene Nix and Lenora Parkins recommended Mimi’s Cafe, and Parkins also recommended The Claim Jumper. …

For Joan Justi, who’s looking for Hereford Corned Beef Hash, Van Bohrer reported finding it at Smart & Final (and added that if she likes roast-beef hash as well, he recommends the one at Trader Joe’s), and Stephen Salchenberger reported finding it at the International Marketplace, 5000 S. Decatur Blvd. And since Justi indicated that she was open to another good brand, Mamie Glorioso recommended Hormel, and Ron Lutz at The Butcher Block, 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd., said he makes his own fresh corned-beef hash. …

For Neal Anzalotti, who’s looking for B&M Baked Beans, Joanne Henry said she found them at Albertsons at 2910 Bicentennial Parkway in Henderson, Debbie Caponera found them at Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road and Paulette Juryn said she found large cans at the Costco Business Center at 222 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. Juryn added, though, that she finds the Great Value brand sold at Wal-Mart to be “half the cost and really very good.”…

And, in answer to last week’s search for Aunt Hattie’s low-carb bread, Amy Gonzalez faxed that she found all kinds of Aunt Hattie’s breads at 99 Cents Only stores. And Richard Criswell e-mailed that he thinks Lee’s Delightful products “are far superior in all regards, including price.” He said the best price is at Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets. …

Bill Spits: Green Giant frozen stir fry in Garlic Szechuan;

Marilyn Semones: no-sugar-added flavored yogurt;
