Limburger cheese, please
Limburger — the beloved cheese that’s savory in its smelliness, and less of an acquired taste than you might imagine — has been falling out of favor during recent years, as this workingman’s favorite gets left behind the emerging, more fashionable cheeses. But Taste of the Town readers have spotted it, on both sides of the valley, for Donald McGraw.
Ann Brown emailed that McGraw can find it at Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road and Diane Coleman said spreadable Limburger sometimes is available at Valley Cheese &Wine at 1770 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. For those with commissary privileges, Claude Black emailed that 6-ounce bricks of Mountain Castle brand are available at Nellis Air Force Base, and if one lets it age, it spreads at room temperature. And Charles Neverovich found Amish Country Old Fashioned Limburger Spread at www.hefticreek.com (608-237-1992) and www.wisconsincheesemart.com (888-482-7700) and said it compares favorably to Mohawk, which he said no longer is available. …
For Evelyn Austin, who’s looking for a market that sells escargot in cans, Jan Visser emailed that he purchased it at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 2310 E. Serene Ave., and David Fleury said he’s been buying it at the 99 Cents Only store at 7239 Spring Mountain Road. And Sal Angelica emailed to suggest Austin go online and search for “escargot” or “helix snails,” adding, “and many options will come up.” …
For Maxine Marcus, who’s looking for small cans or jars of sauerkraut, Bev Greer emailed that she found small jars of Steinfeld’s Sauerkraut at 99 Cents Only and at Wal-Mart, adding, “in my opinion, this is very good.” …
For John Noyer, who’s looking for small cans of Del Monte brand lima beans, Dave Reynard and Jean Johnston reported finding 8.25-ounce cans at separate Wal-Mart Supercenters in the north end of the valley. …
And, for readers who are interested, Coleman noted that Valley Cheese &Wine has a knife-sharpening service on site.
