Connie Hollenbeck emailed a little while back in search of Lechonera brand sour orange juice. Beth More emailed to say she doesn’t know of a source, but could suggest using two parts orange juice to one part each of lemon and lime juice. More added that she uses this mixture to make roast pork for Cuban sandwiches. I’ve seen other recipes that suggest equal parts of orange and lime juices or two parts orange to one part lemon or lime; I suggest you experiment to find a ratio you like. …

The folks at International Delight sent a recipe for a summer drink. At 147 calories it’s not as low-cal as, say, water or unsweetened iced tea, but it sure beats those coffee-shop indulgences.

SWEET & SKINNY
ICED CINNAMON LATTE

1 cup International Delight Iced Coffee Light Vanilla

1 to 2 tablespoons cinnamon syrup (recipe follows)

2 tablespoons fat-free whipped topping

Cinnamon, for sprinkling

Combine International Delight and cinnamon syrup over ice in a tall glass. Top with whipped topping and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

To make cinnamon syrup, combine ½ cup packed light brown sugar, ½ cup sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Lower heat, add cinnamon sticks and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain into a colander and refrigerate for as long as two weeks.

And beers from around the world will be featured during the Las Vegas Brews and Blues Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. There also will be food vendors and, of course, plenty of blues music. The admission fee of $35 in advance, $40 at the door includes a sampling mug and unlimited samples. VIP tickets, which are $75, allow access to a climate-controlled brewer’s lounge, with beer samples and food. The event is open only to those 21 and older.
