East siders have shorter drive to find Italian pastries
July 24, 2013 - 12:43 pm
I have a tip this week on something frequently requested by readers of this column.
When we’ve had queries about local sources for fresh Italian pastries, readers have — since the demise of Albina’s several years ago — suggested Siena Trattoria and Deli, which is at 9500 W. Sahara Ave. But while Siena is convenient for those on the west side of the valley, it’s a bit of a haul for those from the east side.
So this week I’d like to note that Montesano’s Eateria, which is at 9905 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson, has quite a selection of Italian-style baked goods and other desserts.
I tried only the sfogliatelle, the shell-shaped pastry with lots and lots of layers, a filling of ricotta and just enough candied fruit to add a bit of sweetness, and I’m happy to report it was excellent.
But if those aren’t to your liking, we also liked the looks of the eclairs, cannoli, chocolate cannoli, Boston cream cakes, pasticciotti and a whole lot more. …
