DINING: Railroad Pass birthday, new restaurants, wine dinner

Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino — which is, appropriately enough, in Railroad Pass between Henderson and Boulder City — will celebrate its 80th birthday next week with 80-cent hot dogs and 80-cent beers. The hotel-casino also is hosting a competition of cakes decorated by chefs from many of its sister MGM Resorts properties, which will be on display in the hotel lobby for public viewing until Wednesday (Aug. 3).

The Plaza at 1 Main St. downtown has announced that Island Sushi and Hawaiian Grill (from longtime local chef Terence Fong) and a Zaba’s Mexican Grill will open this fall as part of the property’s renovations. The Plaza already has announced that it will be the newest location of Hash House A Go Go. …

The Flamingo, 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has announced it will open a Carlos ‘n Charlie’s this winter. …

A dinner featuring wines from Oregon is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 4) at Brand Steakhouse and Lounge at the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South. It’s $75 per person plus tax and tip; call 588-5656. …
