World Folk Arts Festival opens today

More than 1,000 dancers, musicians and artists from around the world will participate in Las Vegas’ ninth annual World Folk Arts Festival today through Sunday at Boulevard Mall, 3860 S. Maryland Parkway.

The family-friendly event features an international parade, performances, interactive workshops, dance, theater, fashions and cuisine from many countries.

Performances are free, but it costs $5 to $10 for select workshops on Friday and Saturday. For additional information and for tickets to workshops, visit www.lasvegasworldfolkfest.com.

The event is hosted by the Mexico Vivo Dance Company and will be inside the mall’s east entrance. Performances are scheduled today from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dancers from 18 countries are expected to participate in the event.
