11 other Stones’ songs the movie ‘Gimme Shelter’ could’ve ruined
In “Gimme Shelter,” a pregnant teen (Vanessa Hudgens) so damaged she’s practically feral runs away from her violent addict mother (Rosario Dawson), then flees the Wall Street bigwig dad (Brendan Fraser) she just met because he counsels her to get an abortion, then ends up living on the streets before she eventually finds a home in a shelter for girls who want to keep their babies.
Not only does it feel like the Catholic Church’s quickie response to the superior-in-every-way “Philomena,” it forever taints a perfectly good Rolling Stones song.
And that’s taking into consideration that the previous movie called “Gimme Shelter,” the 1970 concert documentary, includes footage of a fan being stabbed to death.
A closer look at the Stones’ discography, though, finds at least 11 other appropriate songs the filmmakers could have ruined instead:
1) “Emotional Rescue”
2) “Doom and Gloom”
3) “Love Is Strong”
4) “Out of Control”
5) “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
6) “19th Nervous Breakdown”
7) “Sad Sad Sad”
8) “Shattered”
9) “Miss You”
10) “Crazy Mama”
11) “Anybody Seen My Baby?”
