Wrong-way driver in deadly crash had blood alcohol level of 0.22
A wrong-way driver in an early December crash on Interstate 15 near Primm had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit at the time of his death, the Clark County coroner said Thursday.
Frank Thomas, 42, of Jean, was driving an Oldsmobile north in the southbound lanes of I-15 about 9:55 p.m. Dec. 5 just north of Primm when the car slammed head-first into a Chevrolet van, the Nevada Highway Patrol has said.
Thomas had a blood alcohol level of 0.22 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08, according to a statement from Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg.
The Chevrolet’s driver, 51-year-old John L. Camilo, of Valley Village, California, also died in the crash. Both men died at the scene.
The coroner’s office has ruled Camilo’s death an accident, but Thomas’ cause and manner of death was still pending Thursday afternoon.
The crash that killed Thomas and Camilo came two days after another DUI wrong-way crash on I-15 in the Las Vegas Valley. About 3:30 a.m. Dec. 3, 39-year-old Frank Magliarditi was driving south in the northbound lanes of the highway near the Charleston Boulevard off-ramp when he collided head-on with an Amazon semitrailer.
Magliarditi, of Henderson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office said Monday that Magliarditi had a blood alcohol level of 0.143 and tested positive for THC.
