Woman wounded, 1 woman arrested in southeast Las Vegas shooting

A woman has been hospitalized and another woman is in police custody following an early morning shooting in southeast Las Vegas.

About 1:30 a.m., Metro responded to calls reporting gunfire and a person shot in the 3100 block of El Chico Court, near the intersection of East Hacienda Avenue and South Pecos Road, Lt. Sean McNulty said.

Arriving officers contacted “all residents of the house and located one person with multiple gunshot wounds,” McNulty said. The woman was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, he said.

Paula Kachmarik is in custody in connection with the shooting, police said. Kachmarik faces charges of attempted murder and domestic battery with the use of a deadly weapon.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the shooting appeared to be domestic-related, and Kachmarik is possibly a relative of the woman who was shot.
