Suspect linked to central Las Vegas shooting held without bail

A suspect arrested in connection with a central valley shooting Monday told Las Vegas police he sought to “defuse” a situation with another man outside a convenience store but shot him after seeing he had a gun, arrest documents show.

Metropolitan Police Department documents identify Akhenaton Taylor, 21, as a suspect in the shooting at a convenience store, where Eric Davis, 38, was struck by a single bullet to the chest.

Taylor was jailed on one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon in Clark County Detention Center, where he was being held without bail Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported about 10:30 p.m. Monday at a 7-Eleven, 5110 S. Maryland Parkway, near East Reno Avenue, Metro Lt. David Gordon said.

Arriving officers found Davis in the driver’s seat of a white four-door vehicle. He had a gunshot wound to his chest and was hospitalized, Gordon said.

Surveillance video showed Davis entering the store, then Taylor a minute later. Both men are observed staring at each other, then Taylor continued to walk down an aisle, the report said.

Davis eventually approached Taylor, and the two had a brief conversation, arrest documents said.

Taylor was seen leaving the store to return to his vehicle, followed by Davis shortly afterward, the report said. Taylor then began to walk toward Davis’ vehicle, retrieved a gun and fired one shot to his chest, the report said.

Police later said Taylor was taken into custody at 5010 S. Maryland Parkway.

Taylor told police that he approached Davis to “defuse the situation,” the report said. He then saw that Davis had a gun, so he shot him and ran off, the report said.

No information on Davis’ condition was immediately available Wednesday.
