A Las Vegas police officer, responding to a report of someone with a gun, shot a person Friday night in the west valley.

Officers were called about 9:40 p.m. to the 10000 block of West Sahara Avenue, near Hualapai Way, after a report that a male suspect pointed a gun at another person outside a Rebel station, Metropolitan Police Department Capt. Nichole Splinter said at a briefing early Saturday morning.

When officers arrived, they saw someone matching the suspect’s description leave another business, she said.

Officers called out to him, but the suspect ran away. After a short chase, he turned toward police, and one officer fired, hitting him, Splinter said.

He was arrested and taken to University Medical Center. His condition was unknown Saturday morning, Splinter said.

It was unclear how many times the officer fired, and whether the suspect pointed a weapon at police.

The department will release the officer’s name in 48 hours and give a press briefing with additional information in 72 hours.

Friday night’s shooting marked the 10th Metro police shooting this year.
