3 wounded in shooting outside bar east of Strip

Updated September 26, 2020 - 1:06 pm

Three people were shot early Saturday following a fight outside a bar and liquor store just east of the Strip, police said.

All three injured were hospitalized are expected to survive, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Frank Humel said. Officers were flagged down about 3:30 a.m. regarding the shooting in the parking lot of the Stage Door Casino, 4000 Linq Lane.

Investigators believe there was a fight in the parking lot, and then someone shot into the crowd from a passing car.

Five hours after police were called to the scene, crime scene tape still surrounded the bar and liquor store. Police had blocked a portion of Linq Lane, westbound Flamingo and the Cromwell parking garage.

Saturday marked the latest in a string of shootings and assaults on the Strip in recent weeks. About 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, a person was shot in the leg in the valet area of the Aria, 3730 Las Vegas Boulevard South, following a fight.

The shooting happened during a party for rapper Moneybagg Yo, who posted on social media that he was not the target of the shooting.

Last weekend, a 27-year-old man was shot five times during a fight in front of Paris Las Vegas. The man survived, and police arrested three others.

Metro Capt. Dori Koren told the Review-Journal on Wednesday that aggravated assaults on the Strip and in adjacent areas are up 29 percent compared with this time last year. He said the department has increased patrols on the Strip.

“I think it is important for us to acknowledge that we are experiencing a crime problem,” Koren said, referencing the rise in assaults. “And I think we have to put it in the perspective that this is a very unique situation. I think 2020, in general, has put us in some uncharted territories.”
