3 hospitalized after shooting in east Las Vegas parking lot

Three people were hospitalized, including a 10-year-old girl, after a shootout in an east Las Vegas parking lot Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The girl and her mother, who was also shot, were bystanders and were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with survivable injuries.

Police were called to the area of Stewart Avenue and Nellis Boulevard after receiving a report of the shooting about 4:40 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Grant Rogers said.

A man headed into a pawn shop was confronted by another man, police said. The two suspects shot a total of about 20 rounds at each other in a lot southeast of the intersection, Rogers said. One of them was shot near his hip and was taken by an unknown woman to Sunrise Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a survivable injury, police said.

The other shooting suspect fled the scene on foot, and police have not made any arrests.

“If the other one was shot, we have not heard from him at a hospital or an additional 911 call,” Rogers said.

A woman driving north on Nellis was grazed by a bullet but did not receive medical attention, he said.

Investigators were working to determine if the shooting was gang-related.

The shooting forced police to shut down Nellis Boulevard between Stewart and Sunrise avenues, according to the Regional Transportation Commission.

The police department will put more resources into the eastern part of the valley to curb violent crime, Rogers said.
