Federal jury convicts man who robbed a Summerlin bank in January 2015

One of two local men who robbed a Summerlin bank in January 2015 was convicted in court Tuesday by a federal jury, the Justice Department said in a statement.

Jerome Michael Bell, 26, of Las Vegas, was convicted March 22 of one count of conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, one count of armed bank robbery and one count of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.

The second man, DeShawn Walker, 26, pleaded guilty March 1 to conspiracy to commit bank robbery and one count of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court records and information submitted to the jury, at about 8:44 a.m. Jan. 2, 2015, Bell and Walker entered the Summerlin bank wearing dark clothing, hooded sweatshirts, masks and dark gloves.

Bell robbed some of the tellers of their money, the release said. They drove off in a vehicle one of Bell’s relatives was renting. Authorities tracked the vehicle to the east valley, where it crashed into a truck.

Bell ran but was arrested shortly after; Walker was arrested in someone’s backyard after jumping from the car.

Walker’s sentencing is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 1. Bell’s sentencing is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 20, the release said.
