North Las Vegas police have arrested a mother and father after their 3-month-old baby boy was found dead in a dumpster on Sunday.
The mother and father, 32-year-old Adriana Hernandez and 52-year-old Raul Ramos, face three counts each of child abuse or neglect and one count each of destroying or concealing evidence, according to an email the North Las Vegas Police Department sent Friday afternoon.
Police spokesman Eric Leavitt said the couple was arrested at a hotel on the 2400 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard, which is the block number of the Casa Blanca Hotel.
The infant was found in a dumpster after officers were called about 9 a.m. Sunday to the 2500 block of Carroll Street, near Las Vegas Boulevard North, police have said. The baby was found less than a half-mile from where the man and woman were arrested.
Leavitt said Friday that detectives were waiting on the Clark County coroner’s office to finish toxicology reports before determining if the parents could face additional or updated charges.
The baby’s name and cause and manner of death had not been released by the coroner’s office as of Friday afternoon.
The boy was believed to be between 1 and 6 months old when he was initially found, but police on Friday said he was 3 months old. The baby had no physical injuries.
The infant was found in one of two dumpsters in the center of an alley behind a cluster of apartment buildings.
Hernandez and Ramos were identified as suspects after an “extensive investigation,” the department said. Further information about their arrests was not immediately available.
The couple remained in the Las Vegas City Jail on Friday, and jail records indicate that Hernandez was also placed on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.
They are both due to appear in court on Wednesday.
