Thursday shooting death marks 17th North Las Vegas homicide this year

North Las Vegas police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one person dead Thursday.

About 2 a.m., police responded to the 2500 block of Glory View Lane, near the intersection of West Carey Avenue and Simmons Street, to investigate calls regarding a shooting and a traffic collision.

Arriving officers located 37-year-old David Medina suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, North Las Vegas police said in a press release. Medina was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.

This represents the 17th homicide in North Las Vegas in 2016, police said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was in the driver seat of his vehicle prior to the shooting,” the release said. According to police, the man lost control of the vehicle when he was shot and then collided with a parked car.

Police said the shooting does not seem to be random. No suspects are in custody, and police have not released a description of a possible suspect.
