Suspect arrested in Sunday’s double homicide in Las Vegas

Edgar Palomino had just moved to Las Vegas to be closer to family when he and his brother were shot and killed Sunday.

According to an email circulated Monday within Salt Lake City-based Connor Sport Court International, where Palomino had worked for four years, he had finished moving on April 13.

Palomino, 33, and Javier Rodriguez Ruiz, 29, were killed four days later. Palomino leaves behind his five children and girlfriend, “and a baby on the way,” the company email said.

In an email sent to the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Monday, Steve Alvillar described Palomino as a “great friend and awesome co-worker.”

Alvillar said Palomino’s departure from Salt Lake City saddened him, but “he was excited about reuniting with his family so that made it a little easier to see him go.”

Julio Hernandez, 21, was arrested Monday in connection with the double homicide and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of murder with a deadly weapon.

Police responded to the 2400 block of East McWilliams Avenue, near North Bruce Street and Maryland Parkway, just after 1 a.m. Sunday. Palomino and Ruiz were found with multiple gunshot wounds on the ground outside of a residence.

Police have said an argument between the men escalated, and a man pulled out a handgun and shot Palomino and Ruiz multiple times. Both victims died at University Medical Center.
