Second suspect arrested in connection with east Las Vegas homicide

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide in the east valley last Friday, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Cortrayer Zone, 38, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where he faces charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of owning/possessing a gun by a prohibited person, police said.

Just after 2 p.m. June 10, Metro patrol officers responded to an apartment complex at 451 N. Nellis Blvd. Clarence McQuarters, 34, pulled into the complex’s parking lot, where three men in a white Kia sedan were waiting for him, police said.

As McQuarters got out of his car, two men stepped out of the Kia and fired numerous rounds at him, police said. McQuarters was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.

Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said a patrol officer responding to the shooting saw the Kia leave the complex and drove after it.

The Kia sustained a flat tire during the chase, and all three occupants fled, police said. The two passengers ran off, police said, but the driver, Michael Rusk, 28, ran toward a woman and robbed her, taking her cellphone and running into the Cedar Village Apartments, 2850 E. Cedar Ave.

Police said Rusk kicked in second-floor apartment door and hid. When officers surrounded the complex, he jumped from the balcony and was taken into custody. He faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery. He was taken to UMC to be treated for injuries he sustained from the second-story fall.

Police believe at least one additional suspect, described as a black man wearing dark clothing, is outstanding, police said.
