North Las Vegas police investigating fatal shooting
North Las Vegas police found a 20-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound at an apartment complex Friday night.
Officers called to the scene on the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive found the man around 9:40 p.m., Police Department spokesman Eric Leavitt said.
The man had been fatally shot in the side upper torso, Leavitt said. Shell casings were found inside and outside of the apartment, he said.
Detectives believe the man was outside an apartment talking with a group of people when an unknown suspect open fired, police said Saturday afternoon. Officers have not found a motive, but they do not believe the shooting was random.
The shooter fled before officers arrived at the scene, police said.
“It is unknown who was involved at this time,” Leavitt said early Saturday morning. “There were several (people) that scattered once the shooting started.”
Police do not have a description of a possible shooter, he said.
“It’s an apartment complex that’s very busy in our city, a lot of people in a little area,” Leavitt said.
The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the man after his family has been notified.
