Man fatally stabbed in apartment Wednesday was UNLV student

The 25-year-old man stabbed to death in an apartment Wednesday was a computer engineering student at UNLV, a university spokesman said Friday.

Clifton Taylor had been enrolled since the spring of 2015 and was enrolled to attend again in the fall, the spokesman said. He also served as the president of the school’s National Society of Black Engineers chapter, a member of the organization confirmed Friday.

“Clifton was one of the kindest, most softspoken people you’ll ever meet and he worked harder than anyone,” the member, Ashley Agoha, said in an email to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Agoha said Taylor “had a bright future ahead of him,” adding that Northrop Grumman, a global aerospace and defense technology company, had guaranteed Taylor a full-time position upon his expected fall graduation.

“We at NSBE are truly heartbroken but blessed to have known Clifton who was an inspiration to many,” Agoha said.

Taylor was born in Chicago but moved to Las Vegas to attend UNLV. Family friend Ken McDonald said Taylor was engaged.

“He had never been in trouble before,” McDonald said. “He was a really good kid.”

Police are still looking for Taylor’s roommate, Zachary Drey, who is a suspect in the stabbing.

Anyone with information on the stabbing or Drey’s whereabouts may contact the Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide section at 702-828-3521 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
