Man convicted Nevada killing faces competency test to stand trial in Arizona

PHOENIX — A hearing to determine competency to stand trial has been ordered for a man facing murder and kidnapping charges in Arizona after being convicted in Nevada in another killing.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge in Phoenix scheduled a July 7 competency hearing for 45-year-old Craig Leslie Jacobsen.

Jacobsen was extradited to Arizona from Carson City in 2015 after being charged in 2014 with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of Christina Marie Martinez in Maricopa County in 1997.

Jacobsen was convicted in Nevada in the killing of Ginger Rios, a 20-year-old singer and dancer who disappeared after she went to Jacobsen’s spycraft store in Las Vegas.

Guided by Jacobsen’s wife, authorities found Rios’ body buried in a desert grave near Florence in Pinal County in southern Arizona.
