Las Vegas police respond after burned body found in east valley

Las Vegas homicide detectives are investigating after a man’s body was found burned and dismembered on a vacant east valley lot Wednesday morning.

A medical crew responded at about 9 a.m. to the dirt lot in the 2000 block of Dolly Lane, near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Marion Drive, then notified police.

Lt. Dan McGrath, from the Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide unit, said it appeared the body had been brought to the lot and burned overnight.

McGrath said a homeless person who sleeps in a tent on the lot found the body.

During the night, the person heard something being dragged and a car peeling away but did not leave the tent to investigate. In the morning, the person found the body.

On Wednesday, detectives canvassed the neighborhood to gather home surveillance footage and look for leads.

“We don’t know what kind of car we’re looking for, but we’re just going to take all the video in case we do find something,” McGrath said.

The man who died may have been white or Hispanic, McGrath said. Additional details were not available.

McGrath said the condition of the man’s body may make identification difficult.

The death marked the 166th homicide Metro has investigated within its jurisdiction this year.
