Fourth arrest in connection with Henderson man’s body in burned car

Updated February 18, 2020 - 9:33 pm

Police arrested a fourth suspect this week in connection with the slaying of a maintenance worker whose body California police found in his burned car 160 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

Davon Hickman, 33, is suspected of being the trigger man who fatally shot 44-year-old Jabar Anderson, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Afterward, Hickman and three others are accused of conspiring to dump Anderson’s body and cover up the evidence.

Anderson fell to the ground bleeding from a bullet wound to his neck, according to a Metro arrest report. Hickman allegedly ordered others to calmly exit an apartment in the 6500 block of Boulder Highway in Las Vegas so as to not attract attention on Dec. 28 or Dec. 29, arresting documents state.

California authorities arrested Hickman on Monday in Palmdale, Metro said in a news release Tuesday.

Police allege Hickman and at least three other people planned to rob Anderson by luring him to an apartment in a marijuana deal. After Anderson pulled out a silver handgun to defend himself after realizing he was being robbed, Hickman allegedly used a 9 mm handgun and shot Anderson one time, killing him, police wrote in Hickman’s arrest report.

The shell casing sat inside the apartment for almost two weeks after authorities found Anderson’s body. On Jan. 16, maintenance workers clearing out the apartment found the casing beneath the unit’s stove, Hickman’s arrest report shows.

During the initial investigation, detectives followed a trail of blood from the apartment to a nearby parking space and later determined the group moved Anderson’s body to his vehicle and drove to Barstow, where authorities in California found the body on Dec. 31.

On Jan. 10, Metro police arrested Jecory Kemp, 28, and Tyeshia James, 24. Each were indicted last week on one count of murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and robbery with a deadly weapon, according to court records.

Police say Hickman instructed James and Kemp to clean up the apartment, where the shooting occurred. And they say he had them move the body into the trunk of Anderson’s car.

Kemp is suspected of driving the vehicle with Hickman to Barstow and then setting it on fire, police said.

Preston Huteson, a third suspect, was arrested on Jan. 24 and charged with harboring, concealing or aiding a felony offender and own or possess gun by prohibited person. Police allege Huteson drove Kemp and Hickman back to Las Vegas after they disposed of Anderson’s body.

According to court documents, Kemp and James have admitted to planning to rob Anderson when he arrived at James’ Las Vegas apartment on Dec. 30 to sell marijuana.

As of Tuesday, Hickman had not been booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Kemp and James remain in the jail, while Huteson was released after posting bond on a $5,000 bail on Jan. 24, court records show.
