Coroner IDs Las Vegas woman found dead in Arts District apartment

Updated March 13, 2017 - 3:55 pm

The man suspected of strangling a 21-year-old woman Thursday night in an Arts District apartment was her boyfriend, according to his arrest report.

According to the Clark County coroner’s office, the woman was Laura Angel Guden of Las Vegas.

Police said Guden’s neighbors called 911 just before 9 p.m. Thursday after hearing screaming and a loud thump coming from a unit at 913 S. Third St., near East Charleston Boulevard.

When Metropolitan Police Department officers entered the apartment, Guden was found unresponsive with defensive wounds on her hands. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a statement Friday. The coroner reported Monday that she died from strangulation.

A man later identified as Robert Roginsky, 38, was standing near the front of the apartment when police entered. His arrest report said the two were dating and lived together.

According to the report, Roginsky made unsolicited comments about strangling the victim. “I should have called earlier,” he told police.

But later in the interview process, he told detectives that his girlfriend was raped and strangled by a drug dealer named David. Roginsky said David and another man kidnapped him after the killing and took him to an unknown location.

Roginsky said David told him that he needed “to take the blame for this” before returning him to his apartment, where they left Gudon’s body.

Neighbors who had been home all day told police that no one was seen leaving or entering the couple’s apartment, and that Roginsky’s car never left the complex.

During Roginsky’s interview, detectives noted scratches on his forearms and injuries that indicated he had been in a recent physical altercation. He was taken into custody and faces one count of murder, jail records show.

Police said Roginsky suffered a medical episode during the interview process and was taken to the University Medical Center. He has been released from the hospital and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

This is the 33rd homicide in Clark County and the 29th investigated by Metro in 2017.
