1 fatally shot near Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas

A man was shot and killed Friday morning in the central valley, Las Vegas police said.

The shooting was reported at 10:28 a.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Sierra Vista Drive, near the Boulevard Mall, police said. Upon arrival officers located the man, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, on a second-floor landing.

The investigation indicated the man had been in a verbal altercation with another man just before the shooting occurred, police said. The suspect fled the scene before the officers arrived.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Sierra Vista Drive, between Cambridge and Rome streets, was closed following the incident. By Thursday afternoon, the shooter had not been found, and Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said some units were leaving the scene.

This is the 118th homicide investigated by Metro in 2016. The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Metro’s Homicide Section by phone at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
