Woman arrested in fatal crash admits taking Xanax, drinking
A stripper told police she had taken an anxiety pill and drank beer shortly before a deadly Saturday car crash.
Shauna Miller, 26, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence causing death.
Miller told Las Vegas police she was driving a 2003 Hummer west on Spring Mountain Road about 7:20 a.m. when she crashed into a 1997 Ford Escort driven by James Joseph White, 33, of Las Vegas.
White’s Escort was turning right onto Spring Mountain from Wynn Road. Miller told police a green light at the intersection turned yellow just before she entered the intersection.
White died at the scene. A 2-year-old boy, riding in a children’s car seat, had minor injuries.
Miller said she had been working as a stripper at Spearmint Rhino on Friday night and Saturday morning. She drank two beers at the club and had taken a Xanax pill, for which she did not have a prescription, about 8 p.m. Friday, she told police.
Las Vegas police said Miller was under the legal limit for alcohol on her preliminary breath test, although some alcohol registered, her arrest report said.
She failed her field sobriety test.
Miller was booked at Clark County Detention Center on Saturday morning.
It was the 30th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.
