Two men arrested in theft of $20,000 in silver in Pahrump
Two Pahrump men have been arrested in the theft of 500 ounces of silver from the roommate of one of the men.
Police responded to the report of a theft at 1860 Grand Lodge St. in Pahrump on Sunday, according to Nye Country sheriff’s officials. The investigation led deputies to a Las Vegas pawn shop where police said the victim’s roommate, 19-year-old Joseph Chiarilli, and another man, Frederick White, 22, took the silver and sold it.
Police did not reveal how much the pawn shop paid the men bringing in 31 pounds of the precious metal. But the current market price for silver is $40.90 per ounce, which would put the value of the haul at more than $20,000.
Police said White was under the influence of a controlled substance when he was arrested and had an outstanding burglary warrant.
Both he and Chiarilli were in Nye County jail pending bail Tuesday afternoon.
