Henderson woman convicted of embezzlement from union

A Henderson woman convicted of embezzling more than $50,000 from the Laborers Union has been sentenced to one year and a day in federal prison.

Stacy Johnson, 41, also has been ordered to pay the union the money she was convicted of stealing, Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden announced Friday.

A jury convicted Johnson in April of pocketing union membership dues and initiation fees. She worked as a cashier for Laborers Local 872 from 2006 to 2009.

To conceal her theft, Johnson falsified union records, causing the union to file inaccurate reports to its membership and the Labor Department, Bogden said.

Johnson is to surrender to federal prison authorities Nov. 21.
