Clark County School District employees investigated for April gun transaction

Two Clark County School District employees under scrutiny in a gun transaction on school property in April may face criminal charges.

District spokeswoman Amanda Fulkerson confirmed that school police investigated the incident at Valley High School, near Eastern and Sahara avenues, and turned the case over to Clark County District Attorney Steven Wolfson. He will decide whether to press charges.

State law prohibits bringing dangerous weapons to public schools. But legislators made an exception for police officers, school security guards and any “person having written permission” from the principal of a school or a higher superior.

Both the administrator and support staff member remain employed as school officials await the district attorney’s decision, Fulkerson said.

School district policy states that possession of a weapon on school property “will not be tolerated and will subject the employee to dismissal.”
