Las Vegas Monorail to resume operations this month

The company operating the monorail will begin to sell ride tickets Tuesday for the 3.9-mile elevated electric transit system purchased out of bankruptcy by the LVCVA in December for $24.3 million.

“We are thrilled to resume normal operations in time for both Memorial Day weekend and World of Concrete, allowing us to provide a reliable and safe transportation solution for passengers looking for an efficient way to navigate to the Las Vegas Convention Center and throughout the resort corridor,” LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill said in a statement.

The LVCVA acquired the monorail system for two reasons: It needed a reliable transportation system to the Las Vegas Convention Center from the Strip, and it needed control of a noncompetitive agreement held by the monorail company to enable Elon Musk’s Boring Co. project to establish a 15-mile underground network of tunnels on the Strip corridor and throughout the city.

When the system is reactivated, passengers will be required to wear face masks at all times, and customers will be encouraged to maintain social distancing whenever possible. Hand sanitizing will be available at the system’s seven stations. The convention authority said passengers may encounter cleaning crews at the stations or on trains.

The monorail will resume its previous operating hours: Mondays, 7 a.m. to midnight; Tuesdays through Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Fridays through Sundays, 7 a.m. through 3 a.m.

Ticket options include single-ride tickets and several unlimited ride pass options. Discounted tickets for Nevada residents can be bought at monorail customer service desks. Service desks are open daily at all stations except the Las Vegas Convention Center Station.
