LAS VEGAS TIES ALL-TIME HIGH OF $3.18 A GALLON

A gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline in Las Vegas reached an average of $3.18 Monday, tying the all-time high set on May 17, 2006, according to travel club AAA.

A month ago, gasoline was selling for $2.99 a gallon in Las Vegas. A year ago, the price averaged $3.16 a gallon.

Reno’s  average Monday was $3.37 for the sixth day in a row.

AAA spokesman Michael Geeser said Reno’s gasoline prices are higher than in Las Vegas because of operational interruptions in the Northern California refineries that serve Northern Nevada. Also, the Reno market has fewer gasoline stations per person than the Las Vegas market so there’s less price competition among fuel retailers.

Statewide, gasoline prices remained at the record of $3.24 that they reached on Friday.
