Longtime Home Builders chief retiring
Irene Porter is retiring effective July 1 after nearly 35 years as executive director of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.
A search for her replacement is under way, a spokeswoman for the building industry group said Thursday. Porter was also executive director of the Nevada Home Builders Association. She was out of the office Friday and could not be reached for comment.
Hired in December 1977, Porter has lobbied on behalf of home builders, and has dealt with local, state and federal government agencies on all the issues related to the industry.
She manages association operations and special programs, including the trade contractor certification and green-building programs.
“The association has been fortunate to have Irene at the helm for many years,” SNHBA President Greg Oberling of Warmington Residential said in a statement. “Given Irene’s knowledge and decades of experience, she’ll be hard to replace. It’s a challenge to find that level of experience in one executive.”
Before joining the association, Porter was project manager for American Nevada Corp.’s Green Valley master-planned community in Henderson, and director of planning for the city of North Las Vegas.
She was the first woman in Nevada to be a registered director of planning, full-time lobbyist at the Nevada Legislature and chief executive officer of a construction trade association.
