Draft order would allow solar panel installation under current rates, rules

CARSON CITY — A member of the Nevada Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday filed a draft order in the net metering debate proposing to allow potential rooftop solar customers to install panels under the current rates and rules.

The draft order by Commissioner David Noble, which will be considered by the full PUC on Wednesday, would essentially support the position of the rooftop solar industry that wanted to keep the existing rates in place while a new tariff is developed by state regulators for adoption by Dec. 31.

“More time is needed to allow parties to review the other parties’ (net metering) proposals and/or develop their own (net metering) proposals,” he said. “Adopting any of the proposals at this time is premature.”
