Plaza launches MaskOnMeetOn campaign

Updated October 5, 2020 - 2:04 pm

A downtown hotel-casino announced Monday its plans to once again host meetings and events.

The Plaza will reopen its convention space to guests now that Gov. Steve Sisolak eased COVID-19 restrictions to allow for larger meetings and gatherings. The new rules mean small conventions can resume and potentially provide a financial boost for the Las Vegas Valley’s hotel-casinos, particularly those that heavily rely on group travel and conventions. Organizers can apply to host as many as 1,000 attendees, as long as people are separated into groups of no more than 250 at a time in areas such as banquet halls.

Plaza, home to downtown’s largest ballroom, launched its #MaskOnMeetOn campaign Monday.

The plan includes mask-wearing, cleaning and physical distancing and follows plans put forth last week by MGM Resorts International and Wynn Resorts Ltd., which include rapid testing.

The property said all attendees must receive a temperature check and fill out a health questionnaire. A property spokeswoman said optional COVID-19 testing will be available for guests and event attendees who need or want a test.

Last week, MGM and Wynn announced on-site testing programs at their resorts as part of their convention plans.

Conference rooms and meeting spaces will cycle in fresh air 14 to 16 times per hour, the property announced. Additionally, its 30,000 square feet of convention space and 19,000-square-foot ballroom can divide into smaller rooms to meet the state’s safety regulations.

“The Plaza offers beautiful, updated convention space and a team of dedicated meeting planners and hospitality professionals to meet the needs of any event,” CEO Jonathan Jossel said. “As Las Vegas welcomes back conventions, we have created our #MaskOnMeetOn plan to provide peace of mind to event organizers and attendees that their health and safety is our priority, and their event can be held safely, comfortably and with the professional expertise they have come to expect at the Plaza.”
