Slot machine proposal fails in Massachusetts
Slot machine makers on Thursday lost an expansion opportunity in Massachusetts.
State senators soundly defeated a proposal that would have allowed Massachusetts’ four racetracks to each add up to 2,500 slot machines.
The plan was to use gaming revenues to bring in new dollars that would allow cities and towns to offset cuts in local aid.
The proposal, which came as an amendment to the state budget, was defeated by a 31-to-6 vote in the Senate.
