Sands tops off $5 billion Singapore resort
Las Vegas Sands Corp. celebrated a milestone in the construction of its $5 billion Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, topping off the three 55-story hotel towers early today.
Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson told media in Singapore he expected the hotel, casino and entertainment complex would open sometime in January or February.
“We’re pleased to be another step closer to delivering on our promise to Singapore and we remain committed to creating the landmark, premier integrated resort in Southeast Asia," Adelson said.
Construction of the Sands SkyPark atop the towers is the next critical phase of construction.
The contractor will hoist the 7,000-ton structure 200 meters to the top of the towers using technology usually used in building bridges.
When it is completed, the Sands SkyPark will be longer horizontally than the Eiffel Tower is tall and will be the largest cantilevered public observation deck in the world.
