Sands Foundation donates $1 million to the Discovery Children’s Museum

The charitable foundation for Las Vegas Sands Corp. donated $1 million to the new Discovery Children’s Museum at Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center in Symphony Park.

The donation, made by the Sands Foundation, was the largest single donation to the new museum campaign since the lead gift in 2010 from The Smith Center for the Performing Arts and Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

The Sands Foundation gift will help open the new children’s museum later this year. One of the three floors of the children’s museum will be named for The Sands Foundation.

“The Discovery Children’s Museum will serve as a crucial community asset and educational resource for children, parents and teachers,” Las Vegas Sands Vice President of Communications Ron Reese said in a statement. “We see this not as a donation, but as an investment in the future of our community and children.”

Las Vegas Sands operates The Venetian and Palazzo resorts on Strip, as well as hotel-casinos in Macau, Singapore and Pennsylvania.

The museum, which is seeking to raise $2.5 million, will relocate from its current location on Las Vegas Boulevard North where it has operated for 22 years as the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum.

The museum has more than 100 interactive exhibits based on science, art, and culture for children and families.
