Megabucks jackpot more then $31 million
By the time you read this, someone may be at least $31 million richer.
Megabucks was at more than $31.3 million Friday afternoon and International Game Technology, which manages the progressive slot machine that is linked in casinos through state, wanted gamblers to know the figure was growing fast.
"A jackpot this big is truly monumental, and we love giving players a chance at such a life-altering prize," IGT spokesman Ed Rogich said.
Megabucks launched in 1986 with a top prize of $1 million. Players need to wager the maximum $3 to eligible for the jackpot.
The largest Megabucks prize ever awarded was $39.7 million, won in March 2003 at the Excalibur. IGT, which shares revenues from the Megabucks slot machines with casinos, pays the prize in annual installments.
Once the jackpot hits, Megabucks slot machines around the state will revert back to the $10 million starting jackpot.
