Isle of Capri seeks Missouri gaming opportunity

Isle of Capri Casinos, which took a step toward a obtaining a Nevada gaming license Wednesday, is one of five applicants for a vacant Missouri gaming license and is the only company seeking to locate a casino in the southeastern city of Cape Girardeau.

The license, Missouri’s 13th and last casino opportunity, was given up last month by Pinnacle Entertainment, which closed the aging President Casino in downtown St. Louis.

Isle of Capri is proposing to build the $125 million casino on more than 20 acres along North Main Street. Another potential applicant for Cape Girardeau didn’t submit the necessary paperwork to the Missouri Gaming Commission by Wednesday’s 5 p.m. deadline.

The Missouri Gaming Commission said two of the applicants want to build the casino in the Sugar Creek suburb of Kansas City, while two proposals were submitted for St. Louis.

Isle of Capri, which is headquartered in St. Louis, already operates three casinos in Missouri, including a property in Kansas City.
