Gaming in Kentucky a “dead issue”

Debate over legalized gaming in Kentucky may be pushed beyond this year.

Both the House Speaker and Senate President told media that gaming expansion is likely a dead issue in the 2010 legislative session.

Kentucky’s governor favors slot machines at racetracks. The issue was considered pressing because of neighboring Ohio’s legalization of casinos last year.

“With Kentucky likely out of the picture, we think Massachusetts will be the state to watch for possible gaming expansion in the 2010 legislative session,” Susquehanna Financial Group gaming analyst Robert LaFleur told investors.
