Allegiant has the cure for your ache – but it’ll cost you

Leave it to Allegiant Air to come up with a new way to get a few more dollars out of its passengers.

The unit of Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel Co. announced Wednesday it would start selling a line of over-the-counter drugs on its flights to cover a half dozen maladies, including headache, stomach ache, allergies, general pain, heartburn and critical care aspirin. Most airlines just put an airsick bag in the seatback pocket, but Allegiant will charge $2 each for packets of powder, described as fast acting, under the UrgentRX brand.

“Providing travelers with easy-to-take over-the-counter relief of comment discomforts is an easy way to make travel more comfortable,” said Allegiant president and chief operating officer Andrew Levy, in a statement.

Denver-based UrgentRX says the powders, which come in different flavors, can be taken straight from the packet.

That means passengers will not also have to buy a bottle of water from Allegiant to take them.
